The fair hosts many special events. One important event is the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade, which has been awarded every year since 1950. This award is presented in the Frankfurter Paulskirche, a historic church in the Frankfurt.

The Frankfurt Book Fair also supports various initiatives. For example, Litprom, a group that promotes literature from Africa, Asia and Latin America, was founded in 1980 at the fair. Another example is Litcam, a campaign started in 2006 to flight illiteracy.
