Four New Vande Bharat Routes Flagged Off in November 2025:

Banaras (Varanasi) to Khajuraho: This route connects spiritual and historic destinations, reducing travel time by almost 3 hours compared to earlier trains.
Lucknow Junction to Saharanpur: Enhances connectivity in western Uttar Pradesh with a modern semi-high-speed service.
Firozpur Cantt to Delhi: Strengthens access between Punjab and the national capital with premium train services.
Ernakulam to Bengaluru: Supports rapid travel between Kerala and Karnataka, catering to business travelers and tourists.

History of Vande Bharat

The first train, originally called Train 18, was launched on 15 February 2019, operating between Delhi and Varanasi. It was a game-changer, achieving speeds up to 160 km/h and featuring modern amenities such as automatic doors, onboard Wi-Fi, GPS-based passenger information systems, bio-vacuum toilets, and modular interiors designed for passenger convenience.

Due to its success, Indian Railways renamed and expanded the service under the brand “Vande Bharat Express,” rolling out additional trains connecting major metro cities and tourist destinations with improved frequency and capacity variants—regular (16 coaches), extended (20 coaches), and mini (8 coaches)—to suit different demand levels.

Major Milestones

2019: Introduction of the first Vande Bharat Express on Delhi-Varanasi route.
