Lovepreet Singh Wins Weightlifting Silver at CWG 2026 After Narrow 1kg Defeat

At the Commonwealth Games 2026, Lovepreet Singh won a silver medal from the men’s +110kg event. It was a close match as Lovepreet could not outperform David Liti of New Zealand, who came first in the competition, winning a gold medal by just a kilogram lead. India added eight medals to its tally by the end of the weightlifting competition in the event.

Lovepreet Singh Takes Home the Silver

The Indian weightlifter, 28, managed to lift a total of 388kg with184kg on the snatch and 204kg on the clean and jerk.

Sports director of the Indian Weightlifting Federation stated Lovepreet had a great performance, nevertheless, he was ranked 2nd since David Liti from New Zealand was able to lift 389 kg in total.

Remarkable Snatch Achievement

After an impressive performance in the snatch contest, Lovepreet was in prime position to clinch the medal.

He accomplished the following feats during snatch lifting the,

  • 168kg (First Attempt)
  • 173kg (Second Attempt)
  • 176kg (Third Attempt)

His last lift of 176kg set a new Commonwealth Games record in the snatch and helped him gain a healthy 10kg lead ahead of the clean and jerk.

Needing 217kg in his last attempt for the lead, Indian lifter narrowly lost the attempt enabling Liti to win his gold medal
