His activism led him to participate in a memorable act of defiance: the blackening of Queen Victoria’s statue in Gulab Bagh, Udaipur. This act, organized to symbolize resistance, was executed by Somtiya’s elder brother Rajendra Singh and Narottam Chaudhary, with Somtiya also being detained afterward as part of a mass arrest.
