Max Verstappen wins the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix

Max Verstappen delivered a commanding performance to win the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix, closing the gap in the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship standings with just two races remaining in the season. The Red Bull driver, who started second on the grid, quickly took control of the race and never looked back, claiming his second win in the last four races.

With this victory, Verstappen has reignited his title bid, narrowing the gap to championship leader Lando Norris, who finished second. George Russell completed the podium in third for Mercedes, adding to the excitement as the season nears its dramatic conclusion.

Race Highlights

Dominant Drive from Verstappen

Verstappen capitalised on a critical error by pole-sitter Lando Norris, who ran wide at the first turn after a bold attempt to defend his lead. Verstappen seized the opportunity, took the lead in the opening moments, and steadily built a gap throughout the race. He finished nearly 20 seconds ahead of the McLaren driver.

This win marked Verstappen’s eighth consecutive podium and his second Las Vegas GP victory after winning the inaugural edition in 2023.

Podium Finishers

  • 1st – Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing)
  • 2nd – Lando Norris (McLaren)
  • 3rd – George Russell (Mercedes)

Verstappen’s teammate had a quieter race, while McLaren’s Oscar Piastri recovered to finish fourth, benefiting from a penalty to Kimi Antonelli, who crossed the line in fourth but was demoted to fifth.

Hamilton’s Impressive Climb

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton had a difficult qualifying, starting 19th, but showed his class by steadily climbing through the field to finish 10th, scoring a valuable point for Ferrari.

Championship Implications

Heading into the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Norris led the championship with a 24-point advantage over teammate Piastri and 49 points over Verstappen. After the race,

  • Lando Norris maintains the championship lead.
  • Oscar Piastri is now 30 points behind Norris.
  • Max Verstappen has cut his deficit to 42 points, keeping his hopes alive.

With two races remaining, Verstappen remains a contender for a record-extending fifth consecutive title.
