India’s First Graphene Centre and CoE in IoT Sensors Launched

In a significant development, MeitY Secretary S Krishnan inaugurated the India Innovation Centre for Graphene (IICG) and a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Intelligent Internet of Things (IIoT) Sensors in Kerala. The Digital University Kerala (DUK) (formerly IIITMK) and CMET, Thrissur, play crucial roles as technical partners in establishing these pioneering centers.

Unique Facilities at Makers Village Kochi

The CoE in IIoT Sensors, situated at Makers Village Kochi, is a distinctive facility created by the collaborative efforts of MeitY, Government of India, and Government of Kerala. The primary objective is to boost the development of sensors within the domain of Intelligent IoT systems, encompassing a wide array of applications across networks, devices, and sensor systems.

Additionally, the India Innovation Centre for Graphene (IICG) has been established at Makers Village Kochi, in collaboration with Tata Steel Limited. This center is touted as the first-of-its-kind in the country, focusing on advancing graphene technologies.

Technical Partners’ Expertise in Setting Up Centers

Digital University Kerala (DUK) and CMET, Thrissur, formerly known as IIITMK, serve as technical partners in the establishment of these centers. The release emphasizes the comprehensive nature of these facilities, covering R&D, incubation, innovation, skilling, capacity building, testing, and certification, all to be conducted by experts from these agencies.

Unveiling Hardtech 2024 – Makers Village’s Premier Annual Program

Secretary Krishnan took the occasion to unveil Hardtech 2024, the flagship annual program of Makers Village. This program aims to bring together key figures from industries, startups, investors, academia, and R&D organizations involved in electronics hardware design and manufacturing.

Addressing the gathering, Secretary Krishnan underscored the significance of IIoT sensors and Graphene technologies in propelling digital transformation and economic growth.
