Ministry of Tourism, GOI participates in WTM 2023, London from 6 – 8 November 2023

Introduction

The Union Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with various stakeholders, including travel operators and state tourism departments, is participating in the prestigious World Travel Market (WTM) in London from 6 to 8, 2023. This event serves as an excellent platform for India to showcase its diverse tourism offerings under the theme ‘Incredible India! Visit India Year 2023.’ The inauguration of the Indian Pavilion marked the beginning of an exciting journey to promote India as a global tourist destination.

Inauguration of the Indian Pavilion

The Indian Pavilion at WTM 2023 was formally inaugurated by Ms. V. Vidyavathi, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and H.E. Vikram Doraiswami, High Commissioner of India to the UK in the presence of Shri Rohan Khaunte, Minister of Tourism, Government of Goa. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the ribbon cutting, lamp lighting, Ganesh Vandana and welcome remarks by Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and by High Commissioner of India to the UK.

High-Level Participation

Notably, the Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, took part in the UNWTO-WTTC Tourism Ministers Summit on ‘Transforming Tourism through Youth and Education,’ where important discussions on the future of the industry took place. The day also saw the Secretary Tourism engaging with essential figures, including tour operators, media representatives and other key stakeholders in the UK market.

Diverse Participants at the Incredible Indian Pavilion

Under the Incredible India Pavilion, a total of 47 participants are representing India at WTM 2023. These participants include tour operating companies, Destination Management Companies (DCMs) and State Tourism Departments from various regions of India, including Delhi, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, Assam and the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Cooperation (IRCTC). Several Indian states, including Kerala, Karnataka, Ladakh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat, also showcased their own pavilions, offering a diverse array of products and services to potential clients and partners.

Networking and Business Opportunities

During its participation the Ministry of Tourism would like to use WTM 2023, London as a platform to bring together professionals from various sectors of the travel and tourism industry. The event provides opportunities for networking, business development and the exchange of ideas and information as the event attracts a diverse range of attendees, including travel agencies, tour operators, airlines, hoteliers, cruise lines, travel technology providers, tourism boards, and other professionals in the travel and hospitality sector.

Promoting Sustainable Tourism

In line with the global focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility, the Ministry of Tourism highlighted its commitment to promoting sustainable tourism. Under the theme ‘Incredible India! Visit India Year 2023,’ the Indian delegation showcased a wide range of tourism products and transformative experiences for travelers. The Ministry of Tourism has launched the ‘Travel for LiFE’ program on 27th September 2023 on the occasion of World Tourism Day. The initiative is based on Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) envisioned by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, as a global mass movement led by India urging individuals and communities to act for the protection of the environment against the effects of the climate change.
