Mohammed Siraj Named ICC Men’s Player of August 2025

India’s fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been awarded the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for August 2025, following a match-winning performance in the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England at The Oval.

Despite playing only one match during the month, Siraj’s standout spell was enough to edge past competitors Matt Henry (New Zealand) and Jayden Seales (West Indies) to secure the prestigious honour.

A Match-Winning Performance

  • Siraj delivered a resilient and relentless spell in the final Test, where he picked up a total of nine wickets at an average of 21.11, including a crucial five-wicket haul in the second innings. His efforts earned him the Player of the Match award and helped India level the five-match series 2-2.
  • He bowled an intense 46 overs in the match, showcasing not just skill but also stamina and strategic discipline.
  • Siraj was also India’s leading wicket-taker in the series, finishing with 23 wickets across five Tests at an average of 32.43, including two five-wicket hauls.

Reaction and Recognition

Upon receiving the award, Siraj expressed gratitude and humility,

  • “It is a special honour to be named ICC Player of the Month. The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy was one of the most intense contests I’ve played. I am proud to contribute during decisive moments and grateful to my teammates and support staff.”
  • The award has been widely lauded by cricket analysts, with Sachin Tendulkar—after whom the series is co-named—praising Siraj’s performance and stating that his contributions are often underappreciated.
  • Following this performance, Siraj also reached his career-best ranking in the ICC Men’s Test Bowler
