Born on June 11, 1932, in Tripunithura, Kerala, T.V. Gopalakrishnan hails from a distinguished musical family. He began playing the mridangam at the age of four and had his arangetram at the Cochin palace at the age of six. He is a disciple of Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar. His proficiency spans Carnatic and Hindustani vocals, mridangam, and violin. Throughout his illustrious career, he has collaborated with international artists and received numerous accolades, including the Padma Bhushan in 2012 and the Sangeetha Kalanidhi award in 2014.
Rudrapatna Krishnasastri Srikantan (1920–2014) was a distinguished Carnatic vocalist known for his purity of rendition and adherence to traditional values. He was awarded the Sangeetha Kalanidhi in 1995 and the Padma Bhushan in 2011.
