The Indian Navy deployed a P8I aircraft to Guam, USA, on March 14, 2023, to participate in the third edition of ‘Exercise Sea Dragon 23’, a coordinated multi-lateral Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) exercise for Long Range MR ASW aircraft organized by the US Navy. The exercise, scheduled from March 15 to March 30, 2023, will focus on coordinated ASW tactics among the participating countries and will involve advanced ASW drills.
During the exercise, participating aircraft will be tested on their ability to track simulated and live underwater targets, while also sharing expertise. The exercise will feature participation from an Indian Navy P8I, as well as P8A aircraft from the US Navy, P1 from the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, CP 140 from the Royal Canadian Air Force, and P3C from the Republic of Korea Navy. The aim of the exercise is to promote synergy and coordination between friendly navies based on shared values and a commitment to an open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
Exercise Sea Dragon is a biennial, multi-national naval exercise focused on Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) training, tactics, and procedures. The exercise has been held since 2015 and is organized by the US Navy.
