Former intelligence chief of Iraq Mustafa al-Kadhimi becomes new Iraqi prime minister. Former PM Adil-Abdul Mahdi resigned in November last year. The Iraqi parliament approved Kadhimi’s government at an emergency session. He will begin his term without a full cabinet, however, after several ministerial candidates were rejected. He is serving as the head of Iraq’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) from 2016.
