Namrata Batra Makes History, Reaches Wushu 52 kg Final at 2025 World Games
India’s sporting history gained a new chapter as Namrata Batra reached the women’s 52 kg Wushu final at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China, marking a major milestone. By doing so, she has assured India of its first-ever World Games medal in Wushu, a sport in which Indian athletes have been making steady progress on the global stage.
Namrata Batra advanced to the final after defeating Krizan Faith Collado of the Philippines with a commanding 2-0 win. This triumph ensures that she will return home with at least a silver medal, making her the first Indian Wushu athlete to achieve this feat at the World Games. She will now compete for the gold medal on Tuesday, where she faces a formidable opponent, Mengyue Chen of the People’s Republic of China.
This breakthrough performance comes on the back of Namrata’s recent success at the Moscow Star International Wushu Championship, where she won gold just last month. Her consistent form highlights India’s growing strength in martial arts disciplines, especially in a sport like Wushu which demands a blend of agility, strategy, and discipline.
Namrata’s journey to the final not only showcases her individual excellence but also reflects the expanding presence of Indian women in global combat sports arenas.
Earlier in the tournament, Rishabh Yadav secured India’s first individual medal at the 2025 World Games by winning bronze in men’s compound archery. With Namrata’s assured medal, India’s overall performance at the Games continues to reflect the country’s growing presence across diverse sports disciplines.
