National Maritime Day 2026: Remembering SS Loyalty and India's Shipping Legacy
Every year on 5th of April India celebrates the National maritime Day. This day recognize the the rich maritime heritage and crucial role of the shipping sector which help to economic growth and national security of nation. This day commemorates the historic milestone the India’s first merchant ship voyage which marks the beginning of the modern Indian shipping. 63rd Maritime day to be celebrated under the theme of “Maritime India – Empowering Progress”.
The origin of this day trace back to the April 5, 1919 when the historic ship SS Loyalty has sailed from Bombay to London.

The shipping industry support the exports and imports, industrial development and also generate employment and help for the country’s economic growth.
