New Chiefs Appointed to Lead NIA, NDRF, and BPR&D

Sadanand Vasant Date Takes Over as NIA Chief

  • Sadanand Vasant Date, a distinguished 1990-batch IPS officer from Maharashtra cadre, has been appointed as the new Director General of the NIA.
  • He will serve in this role until his superannuation on December 31, 2026, or until further orders.
  • Date brings extensive experience in law enforcement and will replace the outgoing NIA chief, Dinkar Gupta, who retires on March 31.

Piyush Anand Leads NDRF

  • Piyush Anand, a 1991-batch IPS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been entrusted with the responsibility of heading the NDRF.
  • Currently serving as the Special DG of the CISF, Anand’s appointment comes amidst growing challenges in disaster management and response.
  • He has been given the charge for a period of two years or until further orders, replacing the incumbent NDRF chief Atul Karwal, who retires on March 31.

Rajeev Kumar Appointed as BPR&D Chief

  • Rajeev Kumar, an accomplished IPS officer from the Rajasthan cadre, has been appointed as the Director General of the BPR&D.
  • His appointment reflects the government’s emphasis on enhancing research and development initiatives within the law enforcement sector.
  • Kumar will serve in this role until his superannuation on June 30, 2026, or until further orders, replacing the outgoing BPR&D chief Balaji Srivastava.
