NITI Aayog held Workshop on India-AU Collaboration

NITI Aayog, in partnership with the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), organized a workshop in New Delhi focused on implementing the commitments from the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration (NDLD) signed at a recent G20 Conference. The workshop aimed to strengthen cooperation between India and the African Union (AU) in three key areas: inclusive growth, sustainable infrastructure, and migration management.

Opening Remarks and Analysis

• Dr. V K Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog: Dr. Saraswat emphasized the potential for knowledge, skills, and resource exchange between India and the AU. He called for concrete proposals in the areas of inclusive growth, sustainable infrastructure, and migration management.

• Prof. Ramesh Chand, Member, NITI Aayog: Prof. Chand highlighted the importance of agricultural growth and mutual learning opportunities between India and the AU. He emphasized cooperation in agricultural research, technology transfer, and market access.
• Shri Dammo Ravi, Secretary, MEA: Shri Ravi stressed the significance of cooperation in trade, investment, and development between India and the AU.

• Shri Sudhendu J. Sinha, Advisor, NITI Aayog: Advisor Sinha underlined the shared goals of India and the AU in achieving the objectives outlined in the NDLD.

• The workshop drew participation from over 50 experts, including representatives from national and international think tanks, academia, and diplomats from India and the African Union (AU). The participants actively engaged in discussions on the three key themes, providing valuable inputs.

Action Plan Development

• NITI Aayog intends to utilize the valuable insights and inputs from the workshop to formulate an action plan.
• This plan will facilitate the implementation of commitments outlined in the NDLD, ultimately strengthening the collaboration between India and the AU for a more inclusive and resilient world.
