Ojha, RP Singh Join BCCI Senior Selection Committee

In a significant reshuffle of Indian cricket’s selection leadership, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed Pragyan Ojha and Rudra Pratap (RP) Singh as new members of the Senior Men’s Selection Committee. The announcement was made during the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on September 28, 2025. The two former Indian cricketers will replace S Sharath and Subroto Banerjee in the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel.

This move comes after BCCI had issued an open call for applications earlier in the month to fill two vacant posts in the five-member committee.

Profiles of the New Selectors

Pragyan Ojha – South Zone Representative

  • Pragyan Ojha, a former left-arm spinner, represented India in 24 Tests, 8 ODIs, and 6 T20Is between 2008 and 2013.
  • Known for his accuracy and ability to extract turn on subcontinental pitches, Ojha has also had a successful domestic career and played a key role in the IPL.
  • He applied for the selector position from the South Zone and fulfills all eligibility norms, including the required number of matches and post-retirement duration.

RP Singh – Central Zone Representative

  • RP Singh, the left-arm fast bowler who was part of India’s victorious 2007 T20 World Cup squad, played 14 Tests, 58 ODIs, and 10 T20Is between 2005 and 2011.
  • Singh was known for his swing bowling and crucial breakthroughs in limited-overs formats.
  • He will represent the Central Zone in the new panel and replaces Subroto Banerjee.

Updated BCCI Men’s Senior Selection Committee (2025)

  • Chairman: Ajit Agarkar (West Zone)
  • Member: Shiv Sundar Das (East Zone)
  • Member: Ajay Ratra (North Zone)
  • Member: Pragyan Ojha (South Zone)
  • Member: RP Singh (Central Zone)

Ajit Agarkar, who took over as chairman in 2023, continues in the role following a contract extension earlier this year. The panel, now complete with zone-wise representation, will oversee team selections across formats and levels until 2026.

Selection Process and Eligibility

The eligibility criteria set by BCCI for selector positions are,

  • A minimum of 7 Tests or 30 First-Class matches, or
  • At least 10 ODIs and 20 First-Class matches
  • Candidates must have retired from cricket at least five years ago
  • Should not have served on a BCCI cricket committee for more than five cumulative years

Both Ojha and RP Singh met these conditions. Other shortlisted candidates, including Praveen Kumar, Amay Khurasiya, Ashish Winston Zaidi, and Shakti Singh, were not selected after interviews.
