OpenAI Partners with Karmayogi Bharat for AI Training
Karmayogi Bharat and OpenAI have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) training and capacity building across India’s civil services. Under the agreement, educational resources from OpenAI Academy will be made available to eligible government personnel through the government’s iGOT Karmayogi learning platform.
According to OpenAI, more than 1.7 crore government employees across the Centre, States and Union Territories are registered on the platform. The partnership aims to expand access to practical AI education and encourage the responsible use of AI in government operations.
Karmayogi Bharat is a 100% government-owned, not-for-profit Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) established by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
It supports capacity building among government employees through the iGOT Karmayogi platform, which provides access to learning and professional development resources.
Under the agreement, eligible government personnel registered on iGOT Karmayogi will be able to access educational resources from OpenAI Academy.
The courses are intended to help government employees:
The collaboration is expected to broaden access to AI learning across government departments and support the use of emerging technologies in citizen-centric services.
Chhavi Bhardwaj, CEO of Karmayogi Bharat, said the collaboration aims to help government personnel engage with AI confidently, use it responsibly and translate new capabilities into better public outcomes.
Pragya Misra, Head of Strategy and Government Affairs at OpenAI India, highlighted the potential of iGOT Karmayogi to build practical AI capabilities at scale, noting the platform’s more than 1.7 crore registered government employees.
The collaboration connects AI education resources with an existing government learning platform. It could support civil servants in understanding and applying AI tools in appropriate ways, while strengthening capacity building across the Centre, States and Union Territories.
However, the organisations have not disclosed the financial terms of the agreement or announced a timeline for the rollout of OpenAI Academy courses on iGOT Karmayogi.
