Oxford Bookstores Honours Excellence in Book Design and Visual Arts

Oxford Bookstores announced Bhavi Mehta as the winner of the 9th edition of the Oxford Bookstore Book Cover Prize. Mehta’s winning entry was the book jacket for “The Book Beautiful” published by Hachette India and authored by Pradeep Sebastian.

The winner was felicitated with a trophy, certificate, and a cash prize of 1 Lakh Indian Rupees by a distinguished panel comprising Dr. Alka Pande, Museum curator, art historian, author, and jury chair; Dr. Shashi Tharoor, well-known author, politician, and Member of Parliament; H.E. Ms. May-Elin Stener, Ambassador of Norway to India; Ms. Anja Riedeberger, Director Information Services South Asia Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan; and Mr. Swagat Sengupta, CEO, Apeejay Oxford Bookstores.

Longlist for Art Book Prize Unveiled

In addition to the Book Cover Prize, the evening also witnessed the announcement of the longlist for the second Oxford Bookstore Art Book Prize. This prestigious prize, instituted in collaboration with Visual Arts Gallery in 2022, recognizes the value of art in all genres under the umbrella of an art publication.

The 13 longlisted titles were recognized for their quality of artistic composition and overall design by a dedicated jury panel, which includes esteemed members such as Dr. Alka Pande, H.E. Ms. May-Elin Stener, Ms. Priti Paul, Mr. Anjani Kumar Singh, and Ms. Sunaina Anand.

The Oxford Bookstore Book Cover Prize and Art Book Prize serve as platforms to honor and promote artistic excellence in the realms of book design and visual arts. By recognizing and celebrating the outstanding work of designers, artists, and publishers, these initiatives aim to foster creativity, innovation, and appreciation for the intrinsic value of visual narratives.

In an era where the written word is often celebrated, these prizes underscore the importance of visual representation and the synergy between text and imagery, ensuring that the art of book design and visual storytelling receives the recognition it deserves.
