Piyush Goyal Assumes Charge as Mines Secretary
In a key administrative appointment, Shri Piyush Goyal, a 1994-batch IAS officer of the Nagaland cadre, has officially assumed charge as the Secretary of the Ministry of Mines as of September 4, 2025. His appointment follows the transfer of Shri V.L. Kantha Rao, who is now serving as Secretary in the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.
Prior to his new role, Shri Piyush Goyal served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NATGRID, an intelligence-sharing network under the Ministry of Home Affairs. His leadership at NATGRID involved coordinating with multiple security and law enforcement agencies, helping improve data integration and national intelligence infrastructure.
His background is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the mining sector, especially in areas involving digitization, regulation, and resource management.
