PM Modi Announces ₹1,200 Cr Aid for Uttarakhand Floods

In response to the severe damage caused by cloudbursts, incessant rains, and landslides in Uttarakhand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a high-level review of the disaster situation in Dehradun and announced a ₹1,200 crore relief package for the state. This financial aid comes as a crucial lifeline to help rebuild lives and infrastructure in one of India’s most environmentally fragile regions.

Multi-Dimensional Relief Approach

During the review, PM Modi stressed that Uttarakhand requires a multi-dimensional recovery strategy that not only provides immediate relief but also supports long-term rehabilitation and resilience.

Key components of the relief package include,

  • Rebuilding schools and community infrastructure in affected regions
  • Immediate financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF)
  • Distribution of mini kits for livestock owners to protect rural livelihoods

Direct Financial Assistance to Affected Families

As part of the relief measures, the Prime Minister also announced,

  • ₹2 lakh ex-gratia for the next of kin of deceased persons
  • ₹50,000 compensation for individuals seriously injured in the disaster
  • These payouts are meant to provide immediate financial stability for families affected by sudden loss and trauma.

Support for Orphaned Children Through PM CARES

Recognizing the vulnerability of children orphaned due to these natural calamities, PM Modi declared that their welfare will be ensured under the PM CARES for Children scheme. This includes,
