PM Modi Inaugurates World's Highest Railway Arch Bridge in Jammu & Kashmir
On June 6, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Chenab rail bridge, the world’s highest railway arch bridge, in Jammu and Kashmir. This marks the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), a 42-year-old project aimed at integrating the Kashmir Valley with the national railway network. The bridge, part of a fully electrified 272-km rail corridor, not only overcomes one of the most difficult Himalayan terrains but also opens new doors for trade, tourism, and economic development in the region.
On June 6, 2025, PM Modi inaugurated the Chenab Rail Bridge, completing the USBRL project. The bridge is now the highest railway arch bridge in the world, surpassing even the Eiffel Tower in height. The project was initiated over four decades ago to connect Kashmir with the rest of India. It enables all-weather, electrified rail connectivity to the Kashmir Valley for the first time.
