PM Modi Launches ₹5,600 Crore Development Projects in Tiruchirappalli
Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth about ₹5,600 crore in Tiruchirappalli in state of Tamil Nadu. This projects focused on strengthening clean energy infrastructure, petroleum manufacturing, highways, railways and rural connectivity. These initiatives aim to improve energy access, transport connectivity and economic opportunities in the Tamil Nadu.
One of the main announcements during the event was the foundation stone laying for Bharat Petroleum’s City Gas Distribution (CGD) network.
This Gas Distribution network to be stablished in Nilgiris and Erode districts.
This project involves an investment of around ₹3,700 crore and aims to expand access to clean fuel.
The network will provide Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections to nearly nine lakh households and several commercial establishments.
Natural gas is considered as the cleaner alternative to conventional fuels such as coal and diesel.
This City Gas Distribution project will significantly reduce emissions and improve environmental sustainability in the region.
The initiative therefore contributes not only to economic development but also to climate-friendly energy transition.
The Prime Minister also dedicated Indian Oil Corporation’s Lube Blending Plant in Chennai to the country.
The facility is one of the largest lubricant blending plants in the world.
This plant will support the growing demand for lubricants in automotive, industrial and manufacturing sectors.
By boosting the domestic production, the facility will also reduce dependence on imports, helping the country save valuable foreign exchange.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the 370 kilometres of rural roads built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
These roads are expected to be significantly improve connectivity between villages and nearby towns.
This improved rural infrastructure will enable patients to access healthcare facilities faster, students to reach educational institutions easily.
Such connectivity projects play a crucial role in strengthening rural economies and improving quality of life.
Another important project also announced during the program was the foundation stone for a new highway bypass near the historic Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple.
This temple was built by Rajendra Chola I. And it is a UNESCO recognized heritage site and attracts tourists from around the world.
The existing highway passes close to the temple complex, raising safety concerns for pilgrims and visitors.
The new bypass will divert heavy traffic away from the temple, ensuring greater safety for tourists and preservation of the heritage site.
The Prime Minister also flagged off the several new train services connecting key cities in Tamil Nadu.
These railway services will link locations such as Nagercoil, Coimbatore, Rameswaram, Tirunelveli, Mayiladuthurai and Karaikkudi with other parts of the country.
This improved railway connectivity is expected to boost tourism, improve mobility and create employment opportunities.
