PM Modi Launches India’s First Ring Metro In Delhi

Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first Ring Metro in Delhi. And this is the marking a significant milestone in the expansion of the Delhi Metro network. This new Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur corridor completes the circular connectivity of the Delhi Metro Pink Line. And that has transforming it into a fully operational ring route around the national capital. Also the Prime Minister also launched the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park extension of the Magenta Line. He laid the foundation for new metro corridors under Delhi Metro Phase-V.

Delhi’s First Ring Metro

The launch of the Delhi Metro Pink Line Ring Metro represents the landmark development in India’s urban transport system. With the completion of the Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur corridor the Pink Line now forms a complete circular route connecting major parts of the city.

This newly operational line measures about 12.3 km. They includes several elevated stations designed to improve connectivity across north and northeast Delhi. The expansion increases the total length of the Delhi Metro Pink Line to approximately 71.56 km. And officially making it India’s first fully operational Ring Metro corridor.

The Delhi Ring Metro system allows passengers to travel across different parts of the city without entering the central interchange hubs.

Majlis Park-Maujpur Corridor: Key Features of the Ring Metro

The Majlis Park-Maujpur-Babarpur corridor is an important component of the Delhi Metro Pink Line Ring Metro project. This elevated route connects densely populated areas of north and northeast Delhi and strengthens last mile connectivity.

Several modern engineering features have been introduced in this section. Which is also including the new bridge over the Yamuna River and a double decker viaduct. This viaduct carries both the metro line and a road flyover the showcasing advanced urban infrastructure planning.

Major stations on this corridor include,

  • Majlis Park
  • Burari
  • Jharoda Majra
  • Jagatpur-Wazirabad
  • Soorghat
  • Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar
  • Khajuri Khas
  • Bhajanpura
  • Yamuna Vihar
  • Maujpur-Babarpur

These stations are expected to significantly improve mobility for residents living in these rapidly developing areas of Delhi.

Magenta Line Extension Strengthens Delhi Metro Connectivity

Alongside the Delhi Ring Metro inauguration the another important development was the opening of the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park corridor of the Delhi Metro Magenta Line.

This new extension comes around 9.9 km and adds seven new stations to the existing Magenta Line route. With this addition the Magenta Line now extends to nearly 49 km. This is improving connectivity between several northern parts of Delhi and the rest of the metro network.

A notable feature of this corridor is its engineering design. Some sections of the route reach a height of around 28.36 metres and this is making it one of the highest elevated metro sections in the Delhi Metro system.

Delhi Metro Phase-V: Three New Corridors Announced

During the event Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone for three new metro corridors under Delhi Metro Phase-V (A). These upcoming projects aim to further strengthen transport connectivity across the capital.

The proposed corridors include

Central Vista Corridor: Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha (about 9.913 km underground route)

Golden Line Extension: Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1

Golden Line Extension: Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj elevated corridor

The Central Vista corridor will connect key national landmarks such as Central Secretariat, India Gate, War Memorial-High Court, Bharat Mandapam and Indraprastha.
