PM Modi Launches Kaynes Semiconductor Plant in Gujarat – A Big Boost for India’s Chip Industry

Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Kaynes Semicon Plant in Sanand, Gujarat on the March 31, 2026. This inauguration signals the India’s growing strength in the semiconductor manufacturing and with ambition to become the global tech leader. This facility has begin now the production of the advanced components which are crucial for the industries like electric vehicles and electronics.

Kaynes Semicon Inauguration

After the inauguration of the Kaynes Technology semiconductor plant it will start the domestic chip production by the company. It is located in Sanand in Gujarat and this facility is the part of the India’s broader plan to build the strong semiconductor ecosystem.

The Prime Minister also highlighted that this is not the isolated development but it is part of a rapidly growing the semiconductor ecosystem and also various projects are underway across the country.

This plant will also positions the India as the reliable partner in the global semiconductor supply chain and to reducing dependence on imports.

Boost to ‘Make in India’ and Global Supply Chains

The Kaynes facility is made under the vision of ‘Make in India, Make for the World’. The significant portion of the production is already linked to the global markets and also it includes partnerships with companies of the United States.

Key highlights include the,

  • The supply of Intelligent Power Modules (IPMs) to the global firms
  • Also the strong export potential which connecting India to Silicon Valley supply chains
  • Also Iitegration into the global semiconductor ecosystem

Powering EVs and Future Technologies

The semiconductor components which are produced at the plant and specially the Intelligent Power Modules are vital for the emerging technologies.

These modules will support the,

  • Electric vehicles (EVs) and its sustainable mobility
  • Industrial automation and heavy machinery
  • Also an advanced electronics and energy efficient systems

India Semiconductor Mission

The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of the India Semiconductor Mission which was launched in 2021.

This mission aims to,

  • Develop the complete semiconductor ecosystem
  • To promote domestic manufacturing and design capabilities
  • Also to reduce dependence on global chip imports

Currently In India the projects of worth over ₹1.6 lakh crore are underway across the multiple states and it shows the country’s commitment to the future ecosystem.

Semiconductor Mission 2.0 and Workforce Development

Also, India is now moving towards the next phase with the Semiconductor Mission 2.0. This will be focusing on to the building a full supply chain while including materials and equipment.

The government is also investing into the talent development,

  • To target to train 85,000 semiconductor professionals
  • Also to support for startups through the Chips to Startup program
  • Also the participation of 400+ universities and innovators
