PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone of three Semiconductor Facilities worth 1.25 Lakh Crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated three semiconductor projects virtually, with a combined investment of approximately Rs 1.25 Lakh Crore. These projects signify a significant step towards bolstering India’s semiconductor industry. The three facilities include a semiconductor fabrication unit in Dholera, Gujarat, an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Morigaon, Assam, and another OSAT facility in Sanand, Gujarat.

Semiconductor Fabrication Facility at Dholera, Gujarat

  • Investment: Rs 91,000 crore.
  • Partnership: Tata Electronics and Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) from Taiwan.
  • Production Start: Expected by the end of 2026.
  • Renewable Energy: The facility will be powered by renewable energy sources.
  • Water Supply: Dedicated water supply will be facilitated through a Narmada river canal.

OSAT Facility in Morigaon, Assam

  • Investment: Rs 27,000 crore.
  • Developer: Tata Electronics.
  • Objective: Enhancing semiconductor assembly and testing capabilities in the northeastern region.
  • Socio-Economic Impact: Expected to contribute to the development and employment opportunities in Assam.

OSAT Facility in Sanand, Gujarat

  • Investment: Rs 7,500 crore.
  • Developer: CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited.
  • Under the Modified Scheme: Falls under the Modified Scheme for Semiconductor Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP).
  • Strategic Location: Positioned in Sanand, a burgeoning industrial hub in Gujarat.
  • Contribution: Expected to further strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem.
