PM Modi Receives Trinidad and Tobago’s Highest Civilian Award

On July 4, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honoured with the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the country’s highest civilian award. The ceremony took place during his two-day visit to the Caribbean nation. This award was given for his global leadership and strong connection with the Indian diaspora. It is an important moment in strengthening India’s ties with Trinidad and Tobago.

A Historic First Visit

This is PM Modi’s first official visit to Trinidad and Tobago as Prime Minister. It is also the first Indian Prime Ministerial-level visit to the country since 1999. The visit is part of Mr. Modi’s five-nation tour, and it highlights the long-standing bond between India and the island nation.

Reason for the Honour

The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago was given to Mr. Modi to recognize his global leadership, his work in supporting the Indian community abroad, and his help during the COVID-19 pandemic. Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar of Trinidad and Tobago announced the award and said Mr. Modi’s visit marks a moment of pride and connection between the two nations.

PM Modi’s Response and Gifts

PM Modi said he was honoured to receive the award and accepted it on behalf of 140 crore Indians. As part of the visit, he also gave holy water from the Mahakumbh and a replica of the Ram Mandir to the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, symbolizing cultural and spiritual unity.

Visit to Ghana Beforehand

Before arriving in Trinidad and Tobago, Mr. Modi visited Ghana, where he received another top honour – the Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said this honour was given for his strong leadership and contribution to global cooperation.
