PM-RKVY: ₹1,200 Crore Sanctioned to 10 States and Khet Bachao Abhiyan Announced

Over ₹1,200 crore have been sanctioned under the scheme of Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) to 10 states. The information was shared during the National Agriculture Conference – Rabi Campaign 2026 on the second day of the conference, which is being chaired by Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The money would be used for agricultural programs in the states and coordination among the Centre, state governments, agricultural scientists, and farmers.

State-Wise Sanction of PM-RKVY

The sanction letters were handed over to the agriculture ministers of the 10 states. Among these, the highest sanction has been given to the state of West Bengal, which got ₹290 crore, while Haryana and Chhattisgarh got the second and third highest allocation respectively.

• Punjab: ₹43 crore
• Total: ₹1,281 crore

The total amount sanctioned to all the states is ₹1,281 crore.

What is PM-RKVY?

Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) is an umbrella scheme designed to ensure sustainable agriculture.

The initial Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) had been launched back in 2007-08 to motivate states to make increased investments in the agricultural sector. The scheme was revamped in the form of PM-RKVY in October 2024 within the ambit of rationalization of centrally sponsored agriculture schemes.

PM-RKVY offers flexibility to the states in the allocation of funds among the components of the scheme according to the agricultural needs of the state.

What Is Khet Bachao Abhiyan?

The Union Agriculture Minister has launched a national-level ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ during the period October 22 to November 30, 2026.

The campaign will target the following,

• Improving soil health
• Sustainability of environment
• Balance in use of fertilizers
• Application of Soil Health Card for use of fertilizers

It would be one more campaign under the broad umbrella of agriculture focused on sustainable farming, balance in the use of inputs and soil health.

Approach of Agriculture Teams

The Ministry of Agriculture has decided on more coordinated work among various stakeholders.

Monthly reviews will be held virtually on a regular basis with the states to review the agricultural schemes. A State Agriculture Team at the state level would consist of agriculture ministers/secretaries, state agricultural universities, ICAR institutes, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), ATMA, Farmer Producer Organizations, farmers, processors, exporters, and representatives from the Central Government.

Key Areas to Concentrate on Rabi Season

While recommending the crops and seed varieties for the coming rabi season, the states were advised to take into account the soil moisture and water availability.

Action was also stressed by the Ministry of Agriculture in relation to counterfeit fertilizers, spurious seeds and poor-quality pesticides.

Another priority area was growing pulses in the fallow lands of rice-growing regions of eastern India, including Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha and West Bengal.
