PM To Inaugurate Global Maritime India Summit 2023 In Mumbai

 

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the third edition of the Global Maritime India Summit 2023 (GMIS 2023), set to be held from 17th to 19th October at MMRDA Grounds in Mumbai. This prestigious maritime event is organized by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways and promises to be a significant gathering for the global maritime community.

Distinguished Inaugural Session

• The inaugural session will witness the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Shri Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, and Dr. Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa.
• Furthermore, ministers from 12 countries, such as Armenia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Comoros, Iran, Italy, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Spain, and Nepal, will actively participate.
• Additionally, 16 State ministers and Lieutenant Governors from 11 Indian States and Union Territories will grace the occasion.

• GMIS 2023 provides the ideal platform for unveiling ‘Amrit Kaal Vision 2047,’ a comprehensive 25-year roadmap for India’s maritime blue economy.
• This visionary plan outlines strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing port facilities, promoting sustainable practices, and fostering international collaboration.
• The summit will witness the inauguration of projects worth INR 23,364 crores or the laying of foundation stones, aligning with this ambitious vision.

Tuna Tekra all-weather deep draft terminal

• One of the most prominent projects is the Tuna Tekra all-weather deep draft terminal, which will be constructed at a cost exceeding 4,500 crore rupees at the Deendayal Port Authority in Gujarat.
• This cutting-edge terminal is set to be developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and is expected to emerge as a key international trade hub.
• With its capability to handle next-gen vessels exceeding 18,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), this terminal will play a pivotal role as a gateway for Indian trade within the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.

Industry Expertise and Investment Opportunities

• The summit will feature over 81 international speakers from 27 countries alongside more than 100 Indian counterparts, making it a hub of industry expertise.
• With over 3,000 registered delegates, including 31 prominent Global CEOs, GMIS 2023 promises to be a melting pot of ideas and insights.
• On the investment front, the event is poised to see the execution of 316 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), totaling more than INR 7.18 lakh crores, with 86 investable projects worth around INR 1.7 lakh crores on display.
