Post Payments Bank & EPFO Launch Free Doorstep Service

In a move set to enhance ease of living for senior citizens, India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) and the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 3 November 2025 to provide free doorstep submission of Digital Life Certificates (DLCs) for pensioners under the Employees’ Pension Scheme 1995 (EPS-95).

What the MoU Offers

  • Under the new agreement, EPS-95 pensioners no longer need to visit banks or EPFO offices to submit their annual Life Certificates.
  • Instead, they can now complete this process from their own homes.
  • IPPB’s vast network—comprising over 1.65 lakh post offices and 3 lakh+ postal employees—will facilitate this process using biometric and face-authentication technology.
  • This initiative not only reduces physical strain on pensioners but also simplifies what was traditionally a paper-heavy, time-consuming process.

How the Service Works

The process to generate and submit a Digital Life Certificate is designed to be simple and tech-enabled,

  • The pensioner contacts their local Postman or Gramin Dak Sevak, or visits the nearest Post Office.
  • They provide their Aadhaar number and pension details.
  • Identity is authenticated via face recognition or fingerprint biometric linked to Aadhaar.
  • On successful verification, the Jeevan Pramaan certificate is generated.
  • The pensioner receives an SMS confirmation, and the certificate becomes available online the next day.

The entire cost of issuing the certificate will be borne by EPFO, making this service completely free for pensioners.

A Step Forward in Digital Governance

This MoU aligns with several national goals,

  • Digital India: Promotes paperless, presence-less, and cashless services.
  • Ease of Living: Reduces the physical burden on elderly citizens.
  • Financial Inclusion: Utilizes postal infrastructure to reach rural pensioners.
  • Social Security Reform: Streamlines pension-related processes for better delivery.

By combining the reach of IPPB with the social security framework of EPFO, the government is taking concrete steps to ensure that senior citizens are not left behind in the digital transformation.
