Badminton champion Pramod Bhagat and table tennis sensation Bhavina Patel have been chosen as the flag bearers of India for the Asian Para Games 2026, which will take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Scheduled to take place between October 18 to 24, 2026, the fifth edition of the multi-sport event will see India’s team bid farewell to their country in an official send-off ceremony organized by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) in New Delhi. Both selected flag bearers have won medals in total eight times at the Asian Para Games so far.
Pramod Bhagat has been among the top para-badminton champions of India.
The athlete from Odisha has won six medals at the Asian Para Games from 2014 to 2023, out of which two medals were gold.
Bhagat is determined to improve his performance at the upcoming Asian Para Games at Aichi-Nagoya.
The champion has also represented India at numerous international para-badminton tournaments.
She will share the honor of flagbearer with Bhagat.
The para table tennis player has earned two medals in two Asian Para Games appearances.
She made her mark on the Indian para sports arena due to her success in international tournaments such as the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, where she claimed the silver medal in women’s singles Class 4 table tennis.
This is the reason for her selection as the flagbearer.
India had its best ever performance at the last Asian Para Games, winning an all-time high of 111 medals, which included 29 gold medals.
This performance set a new benchmark for India’s participation in the Asian para-sporting event.
