President Droupadi Murmu Notifies Central Armed Police Forces Act, 2026

The Central Armed Police Forces (General) Administration Act, 2026 is officially notified new act after the receiving assent from Honorable President of India Droupadi Murmu. The new bill is aims to create the uniform administrative framework for CAPFs. This new law is expected to streamline the recruitment, service conditions and the operational systems across India’s key paramilitary forces.

CAPF Bill 2026: What is it?

The CAPF Bill 2026 will formalize the administrative control and leadership structure in the Central Armed Police Forces.

It also focuses on ensuring that Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to continue to hold top positions in these forces.

Currently The IPS officers are appointed on deputation to lead CAPFs. With this new Bill aims to strengthen this system by providing the clear legal framework which supports their continued presence in senior roles.

Supreme Court Verdict: What Did It Say Earlier

Earlier Respectable Supreme Court of India had directed the government to gradually reduce the deputation of the IPS officers in CAPFs.

The direction was to promote cadre officers within these forces to leadership roles in the force’s top position.

The Court emphasized that CAPF officers should get fair opportunities for the career growth and promotions.

This decision was seen as a remarkable step toward greater autonomy for paramilitary forces.

Though the new Bill is likely to override or dilute this direction and bringing back stronger IPS control.

Role of CAPFs in India’s Security Framework

Central Armed Police Forces are important to maintaining the both internal and external security.

Core Responsibilities of the CAPFs are,
