President Murmu Honours Teachers with National Awards 2025
On Teachers’ Day (September 5, 2025), the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, presented the prestigious National Teacher Awards to educators across the country at a ceremony in New Delhi. The annual event not only honors excellence in teaching but also highlights the essential role of educators in building a stronger, more inclusive India.
President Murmu began by underscoring that education is as fundamental as food, clothing, and shelter. Reflecting on her past as a teacher, she called that period one of the most meaningful phases of her life. She described teachers as the real architects of society, with the ability to shape young minds into future nation-builders.
She emphasized that affectionate and committed teachers empower even the most underprivileged children to achieve success and dignity. The greatest reward for a teacher, she noted, is to be remembered by students who contribute meaningfully to family, society, and country.
It as an invaluable investment in the future of families, society, and the nation. She linked this with the vision of Women-Led Development, emphasizing that educating girls leads to more inclusive and empowered communities.
Initiatives under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, such as the expansion of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and special education support for marginalized girls. She urged teachers to give special attention to shy or disadvantaged students, particularly girls, saying that this would make their teaching careers more meaningful.
This year, 45 teachers from school education were awarded, selected through a rigorous multi-stage process involving district, state, and national-level evaluations. Additional honours were also given in the categories of higher education (21 educators) and skill education (15 educators), making the total count 81 awardees.
