Professor Pradeep Kumar Prajapati Becomes Director of AIIA
The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, welcomed a new chapter in its leadership as Professor Pradeep Kumar Prajapati formally assumed charge as its Director on 13 September 2025. His appointment comes at a time when the Indian government is focusing on strengthening traditional medicine systems under its AYUSH mission, and Ayurveda, in particular, is being positioned for global reach and recognition. With decades of experience in teaching, research, and administration, Prof. Prajapati is expected to steer AIIA into a new phase of growth and international collaboration. His leadership aligns with national goals to integrate evidence-based Ayurveda into the mainstream healthcare system.
Professor Prajapati’s career spans multiple premier Ayurvedic institutions. Before this appointment, he was the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Rajasthan Ayurved University, Jodhpur. His academic journey includes a long tenure at Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar, where he made notable contributions to research and academic development.
He began his academic profession as an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), Jaipur, building expertise in both pedagogy and clinical Ayurvedic research. He holds a BAMS degree from Gurukul Kangri University, and completed his MD and PhD from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), both regarded as prestigious milestones in the field.
In his first address as Director, Prof. Prajapati called his new role “a matter of great pride and honour.” He emphasized the government’s vision of taking Ayurveda to the masses and expressed confidence that, with the cooperation of all departments, AIIA can reach global recognition in the coming years.
Immediately after assuming charge, he participated in the valedictory session of a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program organized for AIIA faculty. He also lit the ceremonial lamp at the session, underlining his commitment to integrating academic excellence and tradition.
Dean Prof. Mahesh Vyas stated that Prof. Prajapati’s extensive experience will “take AIIA to new heights,” indicating strong institutional support for his leadership.
