Rahaab Allana Honored with French Arts and Letters Insignia
Curator and author Rahaab Allana has been awarded the insignia of Officier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government. The prestigious honor recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to art, culture, and literature, or who have influenced the global arts landscape.
The ceremony took place at the Embassy of France in New Delhi. This distinction is reserved for those who have excelled in their fields and contributed to the promotion of French art and culture internationally.
Allana, who is associated with the Alkazi Foundation for the Arts, was recognized for his influential work in curating contemporary South Asian photography. His efforts in fostering Indo-French artistic collaborations have been a highlight of his career.
Over nearly two decades, Allana has been instrumental in bridging French and Indian art communities. Notable projects include the Alkazi Collection exhibition at the Arles Photo Festival in 2007 and the curation of multi-disciplinary photography exhibitions for Bonjour India festivals—Mutations in 2018 and Convergence in 2022.
In 2022, Allana co-curated Terra Nullius: Nobody’s Land at the Serendipity Arts Festival in Goa, featuring French artists working with AI and ecology. His extensive work includes contributions to various international exhibitions, publications, and collaborations with renowned arts institutions like the Rencontres d’Arles and Musée du Quai Branly.
Past Indian honorees of this French distinction include prominent figures such as Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia, Raghu Rai, and Shahrukh Khan.
