Rashtrapati Bhavan Announces Key Changes in Governorship

The Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India, has announced a significant reshuffling of governors across several Indian states. This move marks a major change in the political landscape, with new faces taking charge of crucial gubernatorial positions.

Assam and Manipur: A Dual Responsibility

Lakshman Prasad Acharya, previously the Governor of Sikkim, has been appointed as the new Governor of Assam. In addition to this role, he has also been entrusted with the additional charge of Manipur. This dual responsibility highlights the government’s trust in Acharya’s capabilities to manage two northeastern states simultaneously.

Acharya’s appointment comes as a succession to Gulab Chand Kataria, who has been moved to a new position. The transition in Manipur’s leadership is particularly noteworthy, as Anusuiya Uikye had been serving as the state’s governor since February of the previous year.

Punjab and Chandigarh: New Leadership

In a significant move, Gulab Chand Kataria has been appointed as the new Governor of Punjab, replacing Banwarilal Purohit. Kataria’s role extends beyond Punjab, as he has also been named the administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

President Droupadi Murmu has officially accepted Purohit’s resignation from his previous positions, paving the way for this change in leadership.

Other Key Appointments

Sikkim: A Veteran Takes Charge

Om Prakash Mathur, a seasoned BJP leader, has been appointed as the new Governor of Sikkim. This appointment brings a wealth of political experience to the northeastern state.

Maharashtra: A Change of Guard

C P Radhakrishnan, who previously held additional charge of Telangana, has been appointed as the new Governor of Maharashtra. He succeeds the incumbent, Ramesh Bais, marking a significant change in one of India’s most populous states.

Jharkhand: From Union Minister to Governor

Santosh Kumar Gangwar, who formerly served as the Union Labour and Employment Minister, will take over as the Governor of Jharkhand. He succeeds Radhakrishnan in this role.

Telangana: A New Face from the Northeast

Jishnu Dev Varma, who previously served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, has been appointed as the new Governor of Telangana. This appointment brings northeastern representation to a southern state.

A Special Appointment: Puducherry’s New Lt Governor

In a notable appointment, K Kailashnathan, a former IAS official and key advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been named the new Lt Governor of Puducherry. Kailashnathan, who recently retired as the chief principal secretary to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, brings a wealth of administrative experience to this role.

Comprehensive List of New Governors Appointments
