Ravneet Singh Bittu Resigns as Union Minister Ahead of Punjab Polls
Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh Bittu has resigned from the Union Council of Ministers (CoM), its a significant political development ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections in 2027. The resignation was accepted by President Droupadi Murmu on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the completion of Bittu’s Rajya Sabha term in June 2026. Although no official reason was mentioned in the government’s message, Bittu said that he had already expressed his intention of stepping down, and plans to devote his attention to Punjab politics.
The resignation has been accepted, it has been effective immediately.
According to a statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan, acting on the advice of the Prime Minister, the President has accepted the resignation under Article 75(2) of the Constitution of India.
Earlier, Bittu was the Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries.
Bittu mentioned that he has already tendered his resignation after his Rajya Sabha term came to an end in June 2026.
He stated that he had previously expressed his decision to resign and concentrate on Punjab politics.
According to Bittu,
Though there was no explicit mention of any reason in the announcement, political analysts believe that this step might have been taken in preparation for the next elections.
