Saaral Vizha 2025 Monsoon Cultural Fest of Courtallam
Tamil Nadu’s Courtallam region, known for its scenic waterfalls and monsoon charm, hosts the Saaral Vizha (also known as Saaral Thiruvizha) annually during the southwest monsoon season. In 2025, the festival was inaugurated by Revenue Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran in Tenkasi district on July 20. Organized as a multi-day event, the festival showcases a vibrant mix of cultural performances, traditional arts, public competitions, and exhibitions, reflecting the government’s emphasis on cultural revival and community engagement during the rainy season.
“Saaral” refers to the light drizzle characteristic of the monsoon season in Courtallam, a region celebrated for its therapeutic waterfalls and cool climate. Saaral Vizha is organized annually to celebrate this unique natural phenomenon while promoting local art forms, culture, and tourism. The festival is usually held in July, drawing tourists and locals alike to enjoy the festivities amidst monsoon showers.
Saaral Vizha is not just a tourist attraction but a symbol of Tamil Nadu’s effort to preserve cultural identity, promote traditional performing arts like Bharatanatyam, folk dances, Nagaswaram, and instill a sense of community among people. This year’s event also reflected the state government’s proactive governance, with systematic arrangements and active involvement of public officials to ensure public welfare and cultural continuity.
