Sarvesh Kushare Wins Silver Medal in Men’s High Jump at Commonwealth Games 2026

Sarvesh Anil Kushare won silver in the men’s high jump in Glasgow. The Indian national record holder successfully jumped over 2.25 metres, with this he achieved the first medal at a multi-sport tournament and breaking the India’s previous bronze medal record in the event at the Commonwealth Games.

Sarvesh Kushare Clinches Silver Medal in Glasgow

Sarvesh Kushare remained calm and focused during his performance in the finals.

He had a best jump of 2.25 metres, which he achieved on the last chance.

However, attempts to jump 2.28 metres were unsuccessful.

Although Jamaica’s Romaine Beckford also failed to achieve this height, he was awarded with the gold since he previously jumped 2.25 metres.

Scotland’s Jack Kimani finished third with his best results of 2.20 metres.

A Gritty Performance Under Pressure

Sarvesh performed the exceptional consistency during the competition,

  • Jumped his first height 2.05m in one jump.
  • Cleared all next heights without any significant obstacles.
  • Cleared first height of 2.20m easily.
  • Faced some pressure for height of 2.25m but was finally successful.
  • Was unsuccessful for all attempts on height of 2.28m

First Major Multi-Sport Prize

The silver medal earned at the Commonwealth Games is the first important multi-sport medal in Sarvesh Kushare’s career.

This achievement comes as a huge achievement as it surpasses India’s greatest achievement so far in the Commonwealth Games high jump men’s event where the team led by Tejaswin Shankar captured the bronze medal in the last edition.

The medal shows good progression of Sarvesh standing among the greatest high jumpers of the world.

National Record Holder Maintains Brilliant Form

Sarvesh entered Commonwealth Games in an outstanding form.

A month prior to the Games, he made a historic leap of 2.31 meters in the Inter-State Athletics Championships, setting a new Indian national record in men’s high jump.

His achievement made him the top Indian high jumper and a medal contender at Glasgow.

The Commonwealth Games silver also validates his performance on the international stage.
