Senior IPS Officer Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal Appointed as BSF ADG
Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, a 1994-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, has been appointed as the Additional Director General (ADG) of the Border Security Force (BSF). This appointment was confirmed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on January 19, 2025. Aggarwal will serve in this capacity for four years from the date he assumes charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Current Position: Prior to this appointment, Aggarwal was serving as the Special Director General of Police, Armed Police, in Tamil Nadu.
Previous Roles: He has held significant positions, including Commissioner of Police in Chennai and Madurai.
Promotion: On December 29, 2024, the Tamil Nadu government promoted Aggarwal and three other IPS officers to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP).
Controversy: In June 2024, following the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy that resulted in over 60 deaths, Aggarwal, who was then the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Enforcement Bureau, was transferred. He had also been heading the Enforcement Bureau during a similar incident in 2023, where 22 individuals died after consuming spurious liquor in Marakkanam and Chengalpattu.
