Shardiya Navratri 2025: Check Date, Colours, and Significance

Shardiya Navratri is one of the most important Hindu festivals dedicated to Goddess Durga. Out of the four Navratris celebrated each year, the two most significant ones are Chaitra Navratri and Shardiya Navratri, while the other two are known as Gupt Navratri.

In 2025, Shardiya Navratri will begin on Monday, September 22 with Ghatasthapana and will conclude on Thursday, October 2 with Vijayadashami. This festival is celebrated with great devotion across India, especially in Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, and West Bengal.

Shardiye Navratri 2025 – Date

This year, the nine-day festival will start on September 22, 2025 (Monday) with Kalash Sthapana (Ghatasthapana).

The most important celebration of this period, Durga Puja, will begin on September 28 (Mahashashthi) and continue for five days until October 2 (Vijayadashami).

Ghatasthapana 2025 Muhurat

Ghatasthapana (Kalash Sthapana) marks the beginning of Navratri and is considered highly auspicious. Performing this ritual during the correct muhurat brings peace, happiness, and prosperity.

  • Abhijeet Muhurat: 11:49 AM to 12:38 PM

Devotees place the kalash (sacred pot) and invoke Goddess Durga to bless their homes with positive energy.

Day 1: White – Maa Shailputri

White represents purity, peace, and devotion. Wearing this colour brings calmness and spiritual strength.

Day 2: Red – Maa Brahmacharini

Red is the colour of energy, passion, and strength. Devotees wear red to invite courage and positivity.

Day 3: Royal Blue – Maa Chandraghanta

Royal Blue stands for prosperity, wealth, and peace. It is believed to attract good fortune and inner balance.

Day 4: Yellow – Maa Kushmanda

Yellow symbolizes happiness, joy, and brightness. This colour spreads cheerfulness and positivity.

Day 5: Green – Maa Skandamata

Green represents growth, fertility, and new beginnings. Wearing green brings harmony and peace.

Day 6: Grey – Maa Katyayani

Grey signifies balance and stability. It helps devotees remain calm and focused.

Day 7: Orange – Maa Kaalratri

Orange is linked with warmth, energy, and strength. It keeps away negativity and inspires enthusiasm.

Day 8: Peacock Green – Maa Mahagauri

Peacock Green represents compassion, freshness, and renewal. It enhances creativity and spiritual connection.

Day 9: Pink – Maa Siddhidatri

Pink is the colour of love, harmony, and kindness. Wearing pink brings affection and charm to one’s personality.

Significance of Shardiye Navratri

Shardiya Navratri is more than a festival – it represents the victory of good over evil. Devotees observe fasting, chant Durga Saptashati, and perform rituals to honor the nine forms of Maa Durga, from Shailputri to Siddhidatri.

In West Bengal and eastern states, Navratri is celebrated as Durga Puja, with grand pandals, cultural programs, music, dance, and processions. It is both a spiritual and a cultural celebration.
