Sheetal Devi Wins First Individual Gold in Ahmedabad Para Series

Sheetal Devi of India created her mark in India in her impressive performance at the Hyundai World Archery Para Series, winning her maiden individual gold medal in the compound women’s final in Ahmedabad. Defeating Kazakhstan’s Aizada Seidan in the shoot-off match, Sheetal Devi won the competition. Her victory will further build up the experience in her growing career. Sheetal Devi’s triumph was made just before the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games.

How Did Sheetal Devi Win the Gold?

The Indian para archer was challenged by the formidable opponent from Kazakhstan, Aizada Seidan.

Both athletes started the competition with an identical score of 30 points each. But the athlete from Kazakhstan scored two Xs with her final two arrows and forced the competition into the shoot-off match.

X-ring is the inner ring located inside the 10-ring and is used to decide a tie in the sport.

Sheila Devi played well in the shoot-off and shot an X, defeating her rival and winning her maiden gold medal in the series.

Career First Silver for Aizada Seidan

The Ahmedabad final also witnessed a career feat for Seidan.

Seidan, who was ranked 44th in the world in archery, was looking forward to her first-ever title but ended up taking the second prize.

She nonetheless bagged her first ever silver in the event during the course of her career.

Bronze for India from Sarita

India bagged one more podium finish in the compound women’s individual event.

The fellow archer of Devi named Sarita took the bronze medal after defeating Wang Huiting of China in another tight encounter.

Wang was coming into the competition as the current champion of the Asian Youth Para Games.

Gold Medal for India in Mixed Team Competition

There was yet another big victory for India as Harvinder Singh and Bhawna beat Liang Qiurong and her Chinese partner in the recurve mixed team final 6-0.

The reigning Paralympic champion Harvinder Singh had won the gold medal in the recurve men’s doubles earlier on Tuesday, making his Ahmedabad competition an especially successful one for him.

Asiad Games in Aichi-Nagoya 2026 For Sheetla Devi

Sheetal Devi’s individual victory is very timely as the 2026 Asiad Games will be held in Aichi-Nagoya.

Victory in her home country against a determined opponent from overseas brings a further confidence boost for the Indian para compound archer.
