Smit Machchhar to Receive Vishisht Gujarat Garima Award for Courage During Flydubai Flight Incident
The Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has made an announcement about awarding the Vishisht Gujarat Garima Award to the captain of Flydubai Captain Smit Machchhar for his heroic deed during a mid-air emergency situation on a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Despite the fact that Smit Machchhar has been severely injured during this incident, he helped the plane land safely. As the Gujarat government states, this award acknowledges his bravery and dedication. It was reported that the government has offered him a reward of ₹25 lakh.
Smit Machchhar is an Indian pilot working in Flydubai airlines. He came into fame because of the mid-air emergency situation with Flydubai flight FZ1073 that flew from Dubai to Tel Aviv.
As the information goes, there was some altercation involving the co-pilot of the plane that took place in the cockpit. Machchhar was injured during this altercation, however, he managed to bring the plane down safely in Saudi Arabia.
According to Bhupendra Patel, Machchhar will be awarded the Vishisht Gujarat Garima Award on account of his valiant act in the time of crisis.
Patel further informed that Machchhar had made Gujarat and India proud through his act of valor. Furthermore, Patel expressed concern regarding the condition of the pilot and assured that all people of Gujarat were praying for his well-being.
It is pertinent to mention here that the above announcement has been made at the time when Smit Machchhar is receiving treatment due to the injury caused to him during the flight emergency.
The family background of Smit Machchhar goes back to Rajkot District in Gujarat while later on his family shifted to Mumbai. Smit Machchhar grew up in Ghatkopar of Mumbai and is now residing in Dubai.
Both states have mentioned this connection in their respective chief minister’s announcements; where Gujarati Chief Minister has called him a son of Gujarat while Maharashtrian Chief Minister called him a son of Mumbai.
This occurred on a Flydubai flight flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv. According to reports, there was a row between the co-pilot in the cockpit that resulted in serious injuries for Captain Machchhar.
However, despite his injury, Machchhar and others on the plane managed to take action. The plane made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where Machchhar was attended to medically. He was then airlifted to Dubai.
The exact details surrounding the row that occurred in the cockpit have not yet been determined.
After making an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia, Machchhar underwent an emergency operation. He was later moved to Dubai for further medical attention.
