Swacchotsav 2025 to Celebrate Clean and Green Festivities
The Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2025 campaign is set to return in full force, with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti, launching ‘Swacchotsav’—a fortnight-long celebration of cleanliness and community participation. Scheduled from September 17 to October 2, the campaign aligns with the Indian festive season, encouraging citizens to embrace clean and green celebrations.
A high-level preparatory meeting was held on September 9, 2025, co-chaired by the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Minister of Jal Shakti. Ministers and officials from states and union territories participated to finalize the roadmap for SHS 2025.
This year’s theme, Swacchotsav, celebrates the fusion of festivities with environmental responsibility. The campaign aims to harness community enthusiasm during festivals to promote,
Cities and villages will identify, map, and act upon CTUs, including key public areas, market spaces, transport hubs, and event venues, ensuring visible cleanliness outcomes.
The campaign puts strong emphasis on remediation of legacy waste. States are expected to launch projects to treat 100% of dumpsites, aligning with circular economy principles.
Dedicated safety and welfare initiatives for sanitation workers will be undertaken during the campaign. The goal is to ensure their well-being, dignity, and safety, reinforcing inclusivity in the sanitation movement.
It reflects the broader Swachh Bharat Mission goal to integrate Swachhata as a lifestyle, not just a seasonal drive.
