Swachh Bharat Mission poised to enter its next decade and SHS launched

In 2014 Honorable Prime Minister of India launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, it has a transformative impact in our society. This year it will mark its 10th anniversary and this year Swachhata hi Seva 2024 campaign embraces the theme of Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata’.

About Swachh Bharat Mission

  • Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a campaign launched by the Government of India.
  • Under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the objective is to promote cleanliness, sanitation, and open defecation to improve the general quality of life in rural areas.
  • The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was executed in two distinct phases. The first phase was carried out until October 2019, while the second phase spanned from 2020-21 to 2024-25.

About Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign

  • The Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2024 campaign was launched by the Ministry of Jal Shakti and MoHUA (Ministry of Housing and Urban affairs) as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission’s (SBM) tenth anniversary.
  • The theme, “Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskar Swachhata,” emphasizes collective action and citizen engagement for cleanliness.

SHS 2024 focuses on Three key Pillars

  • Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs): Shramdaan for transforming target areas.
  • Swachhata Mein Jan Bhagidari: Promoting public participation and advocacy.
  • Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs: Health check-ups and social security for sanitation workers.

Vice President rolled out campaign and his remarks

  • The SHS campaign was nationally rolled out at a mega event in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, in presence of the Chief Guest, Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankar, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs,
  • VP said India has become a global example of the passion for swachhata, a hotspot favorite destination for investment and opportunity. Emphasizing the circular economy, he mentioned that earlier we were circled in waste, now waste is empowering circularity in the economy.
  • He encouraged the youth to join the Swachh Bharat movement. He also urged all citizens to contribute and join this developmental journey of Viksit Bharat, especially through Swachhata.
