Tallest Ambedkar Statue To Be Unveiled Today In Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh government is set to unveil the world’s tallest statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the esteemed architect of the Indian Constitution, in a grand ceremony today in Vijayawada.

Tribute to Dr. Ambedkar’s National Legacy

The colossal structure, named the ‘Statue of Social Justice,’ stands at an impressive height of 206 feet, making it one of the top 50 tallest statues globally, with Sardar Vallabhai Patel’s ‘Statue of Unity’ claiming the top spot. This monumental creation is a testament to the significance of Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions not only to the state of Andhra Pradesh but to the entire nation.

A Symbol of Pride for Andhra Pradesh

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed his pride in the colossal creation, stating, “The 206 feet Mahashilpam of Ambedkar erected by our government in Vijayawada is a symbol not only for the state but also for the country.” The unveiling ceremony promises to be a historic event, commemorating the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar and his pivotal role in shaping the Indian Constitution.

Tallest Among Ambedkar Statues

The ‘Statue of Social Justice’ stands tall at 125 feet, mounted on an 81-feet pedestal, making it the tallest statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in the world. The sheer magnitude of the structure is a visual representation of the profound impact of Dr. Ambedkar’s ideals on justice and equality.

Project Overview and ‘Made in India’ Initiative

The ambitious project, with a total cost of ₹404.35 crore, spans over 18.81 acres of lush green parkland. Emphasizing the commitment to a ‘Made in India’ initiative, the statue was constructed using 400 tonnes of steel, sourced and manufactured within the country. This project not only pays tribute to Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy but also promotes self-reliance in the manufacturing sector.

Revitalizing the Surrounding Area

The development around the statue is not confined to its majestic presence alone. The entire area, including the Swaraj Maidan where the statue stands, has undergone redevelopment. The addition of water bodies in the forecourt, a three-sided peripheral water body surrounding the pedestal, and a mesmerizing musical water fountain enhance the aesthetic appeal of the surroundings.

Modern Amenities and Infrastructure

The site boasts modern amenities, including LED screens displaying key moments from Ambedkar’s life. Furthermore, a convention center with a seating capacity of 2,000, an expansive food court covering 8,000 sq ft, and a dedicated children’s playing area contribute to making the site a multifaceted and inclusive space.

As the ‘Statue of Social Justice’ is unveiled, it stands not only as a monumental tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar but also as a symbol of the enduring commitment to justice, equality, and progress for the people of Andhra Pradesh and the entire nation.
