Homegrown auto major Tata Motors has taken a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability with the inauguration of its fourth Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Chandigarh. This cutting-edge facility, developed and operated by Tata Motors’ partner, Dada Trading Company, underscores the company’s commitment to responsible manufacturing and eco-friendly practices.
In a press statement, Tata Motors revealed that the Chandigarh RVSF is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, employing environmentally-friendly processes to safely and sustainably disassemble up to 12,000 end-of-life vehicles annually. The facility is designed to scrap both passenger and commercial vehicles, irrespective of their brand, further extending Tata Motors’ reach in the sustainable scrapping domain.
Tata Motors already boasts three RVSFs in Jaipur, Bhubaneshwar, and Surat, reflecting the company’s strategic vision to establish a comprehensive network of scrapping facilities across the country. The expansion is indicative of Tata Motors’ dedication to reducing carbon emissions, promoting a circular economy, and fostering a culture of recycling.
Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility highlighted the facility’s role in encouraging vehicle owners to retire older, more polluting commercial and passenger vehicles. The initiative aims to lead the way toward a more sustainable future by promoting the adoption of newer, safer, and fuel-efficient vehicles.
The Chandigarh RVSF is purpose-built for dismantling end-of-life passenger and commercial vehicles across all brands. It places a strong emphasis on employing environmentally friendly practices throughout its operations. The facility is fully digitalized, incorporating dedicated cell-type and line-type dismantling for commercial and passenger vehicles, respectively. Notably, all operations within the facility are seamless and paperless.
To further enhance its commitment to responsible scrapping, Tata Motors’ facility in Chandigarh features dedicated stations for the safe dismantling of various vehicle components. These include tires, batteries, fuel, oils, liquids, and gases. By meticulously addressing each aspect of the scrapping process, Tata Motors aims to set new standards in sustainable vehicle dismantling.
