Tesam Pongte Elected as the New Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Assembly
Tesam Pongte was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the 8th Arunachal Pradesh Assembly on June 15. Pro-tem Speaker Ninong Ering announced that Pongte was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Assembly.
Tesam Pongte is an Indian politician of the BJP in Arunachal Pradesh. Pongte, 49, who represents the Changlang North assembly constituency, was the deputy speaker in the previous assembly. Pongte is an arts graduate from Rangfrah Govt College in Changlang. He hails from Laktong in Changlang district.
The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly is the presiding authority and highest authority of state legislative assemblies in India for carrying house proceedings. He is empowered to determine the status of a bill submitted to the house by the state legislators.
