Textiles Ministry Launches ‘Vishwa Sutra’ to Promote Indian Weaves on World Stage
To take the India’s rich textile heritage to the global stage the Ministry of Textiles has launched the ‘Vishwa Sutra – Weaves of India for the World’ initiative. This initiative was unveiled at the prestigious Femina Miss India held in the Bhubaneswar where a special designer collection showcased the country’ diverse handloom traditions with the modern global twist. This move aims to promote the Indian handlooms internationally while blending the tradition with contemporary fashion.
The Vishwa Sutra initiative is the unique effort to reimagine the Indian handlooms in a way that appeals to global audiences. It is developed by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) in collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology. The project also combines the heritage craftsmanship with modern design innovation.
At its core the initiative also reflects the India’s ambition to transform the traditional textiles into globally competitive fashion products and without the losing their cultural essence.
