The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Marks 12 Years of Skill India Transformation and Growth
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has completed the 12 years of the its Skill India journey and it marked the significant milestone in the country’s efforts to build the skilled and future-ready workforce. This ministry was announced on 10th of June, 2016 and it highlights the expansion of vocational education, apprenticeships, entrepreneurship development and digital skilling across the country. This initiative is playing the crucail role to prepare the Indian youth for the opportunities and supporting the vision of the Viksit Bharat 2047.
Over the last decade, Skill India has evolved into the comprehensive ecosystem which connecting the education, industry, entrepreneurship and employment.
This ministry has focused on to creating accessible and industry oriented skill development opportunities across the urban and rural India.
Also the growth of the vocational infrastructure has been remarkable. The number of the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) has increased from 9,776 in 2014 to 13,888 in the year 2026.
Additionally the National Skill Training Institutes, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras and Jan Shikshan Sansthans have expanded the skill training access across India.

The major feature of the Skill India’s transformation has been the its digital-first approach.
The Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) has emerged as the one stop platform which integrating the skilling, jobs, apprenticeships and entrepreneurship opportunities.
The government has also introduced the program focused on the emerging technologies. Initiatives such as the SOAR (Skilling for AI Readiness) have also helped learners and educators to gain exposure to artificial intelligence and future technologies.
Around than 4.5 lakh enrollments have been recorded across the AI-related courses and qualifications.
India is increasingly positioning itself as the global supplier of skilled talent. To support the international workforce mobility, the Ministry has also established partnerships with the multiple countries and has launched Skill India International Centres.
These centres aims to prepare the Indian workers for overseas employment opportunities by providing globally aligned training and certifications.
This initiative supports the both employment generation and country’s growing role in to addressing global workforce shortages.
