World’s Oldest University – University of al-Qarawiyyin

The University of al-Qarawiyyin in Fez, Morocco, is recognized as the oldest continuously operating university in the world. It was founded between 857 and 859 by Fatima al-Fihri as a mosque, which later grew into a famous center of learning during the Islamic Golden Age.
